Home Made Chocolate

July 2, 2013 in Recipes by Jill

I have a sweet tooth, and LOVE chocolate – chocolate cake, chocolate bars, hot chocolate, coconut and choc chip cookies, you name it. I would love chocolate in every meal if I could. Actually, I don’t think I would, but the thought of Willy Wonkers Chocolate Factory puts me in happy dream land.

My love for chocolate has changed a little over the past 4 months. I now prefer dark chocolate as I find milk chocolate usually too sweet. Strange, but true. I enjoy the bitterness of dark chocolate and find I am satisfied with half the amount compared to dairy chocolate. With dark chocolate I enjoy sucking on the piece of chocolate so it melts in your mouth tasting the cacao. Whereas, I now I rarely enjoy the sucking of milk chocolate as the most profounding taste is refined sugar, which later makes your teeth feel awful with sugar particles sticking to them.

So I have adopted to making my own chocolate, which is super easy and quick to make. It is probably quicker to make this chocolate than it is to go to the shop and purchase some. Although I must admit on those lazy days some Dark Lindt chocolate in orange flavour is perfect to satisfy me. Mmmmm

Chocolate base
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder
2 tablespoons of agave sryup(or honey, but I personally prefer agave)

Optional flavourings:
Finely chopped 1cm ginger YUM
Finely chopped mint leaves ~1/4 cup
Coconut flakes or desiccated ~1 tablespoon
Roughly chopped various nuts

Mix together all chocolate base ingredients in a bowl.

If you feel like plain chocolate, fill your mini cupcake containers.

Or you can spark things up a little and add any of the suggestions above by just mixing it through the chocolate mixture.

Put in the refrigerator until cold.

Serve immediately after removing from fridge, as this chocolate mix will melt at room temperature.

If you have any other ideas for flavourings please share them for all of us Choco’s to try…

Enjoy xx
